Takata recalls 10 million more airbags from 14 automakers including Ford, GM, Nissan and Toyota

The recall is the last one the bankrupt company agreed to in a 2015 settlement with the U.S. safety regulators. It could bring to a close the largest series of automotive recalls in U.S. history.

Vehicles made by Audi, BMW, Honda, Daimler Vans, Fiat Chrysler, Ferrari, Ford, General Motors, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Subaru, Toyota and Volkswagen are affected.

At least 25 people have been killed worldwide and hundreds injured by Takata inflators. About 100 million inflators are being recalled across the globe.

The saga of Takata airbag recalls has gone on for years, beginning in the first half of the last decade, but it is finally, apparently, coming to an end. Now, in what could be the last of the recalls, 10 million additional vehicles with inflators in front airbags manufactured by the now bankrupt Takata have been recalled for their likelihood of exploding and spraying vehicle passengers with metal shards. The , dated January 2, states that the estimated percentage of actually defective inflators is estimated at 1 percent.
